KHON Production of the 175th Anniversary of Washington Place

Time certainly flies by! It has been a few weeks now since the opening ceremony and keiki hula event celebrating the 175th Anniversary of Washington Place on March 31. We want to offer our most heartfelt mahalo for all of the children and teachers' hard work and dedication that went into making this a once-in-a-lifetime event for your students. Mahalo especially to Uncle Kimo Awai of Hilo for his gift of choreography and his leo (voice) -- the mass hula event would not have been possible without his kōkua, guidance, and aloha.

KHON will be airing a special program on the series of events celebrating the 175th Anniversary on the following dates and times:

Sunday May 29th 7:00 - 8:00 pm on KHON2

Additional air dates:
Sunday June 5th 7:00 - 8:00 pm on KHII
Thursday June 9th 6:00 - 7:00 pm on the CW

We wish every single one of you joy, good health, and aloha as we finish out the school year.

The 12th Annual (2021) “Inspired in Hawaii” (Acts of Kindness) Contest Winner!!!

Hokulani does it again, this time - Congratulations Grifynn from C5 on taking first place in the 12th Annual (2021) “Inspired in Hawaii” (Acts of Kindness) Grade 5 Poster Contest 👏👏👏
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions on social gatherings, the Foundation will not be hosting a live awards program this year to present award certificates to the winning students and teachers.
However, you can go to the Foundation website at and go to the “Student Contest“ page, and click on “Contest Winners” to view her winning entry!
Even better, you can also go and visit Kahala Mall (next to Macy’s and California Pizza Kitchen) to see her winning poster in person!
The winning posters will be displayed from February 16 – March 1, 2022.

Learning and Support Opportunity for English Learner (EL) Parents

Parents and Children Together (PACT) has partnered with the Kaimuki-McKinley-Roosevelt Complex Area to offer a 15-week course for EL parents to learn about helping their EL students succeed in school. These sessions are facilitated by PACT Sundays Project staff and will be held VIRTUALLY via Zoom in the 2nd semester of this school year.

All EL parents are invited to participate, however the target audience is Chuukese and Marshallese parents, so interpreters for those languages will be provided at every session.

Please see the attached information if you are interested. Thank you!
