Hokulani student competes in archery contest

Fifth-Grader Mitchell Kee Chong and Alumnus Vash Cabatingan (Class of 2015) of the 50th State Archery Club attended the National Field Archery Association (NFAA) "The Vegas Shoot" held at the end of January 2016 in Las Vegas, NV. The Vegas Shoot, known as the largest and most prestigious indoor archery tournament in the world, attracts novice to Olympic archers from around the globe. This was the 50th one held and there were over 3,000 archers.

Mitchell scored a total of 476 and finished 11th in a field of 24 in the Recurve – Cub Male division (for those 11 and under). Vash scored 533 and finished 20th in a field of 46 in the Freestyle Limited-Youth Male division for those ages 12-14. Both boys competed against athletes from all over the United States Japan, Mexico and New Zealand.

We are proud of how well both boys handled the pressure of international competition. Their focus and thought process instilled by the teachers and staff at Hokulani helped them though this tournament.

Congratulations to Mitchell and Vash for a job well done!!!
