EARTHQUAKE DRILL

Dear Parents,

On Thursday, January 28th we conducted our annual school wide "earthquake drill." The purpose of this is to make sure we all need to know what to do should this type of emergency happen.

The drill began with an announcement from the school office that we were having our earthquake drill.  Everyone was asked to take cover (under desks or sturdy furniture) and teachers were instructed to make sure that students were following procedures, ensuring that everyone was not in areas where debris could fall on them.

During the drill, administration were checking classrooms to make sure that everyone was taking cover and were safe.  Our custodial staff did their part by shutting down main water, gas, and electrical valves. Once the drill was completed, another public announcement was made announcing the drill was over and classes resumed their normal activities.

As with other safety drills, it's important that all adults practice and know what to do since our students will follow their lead.  We plan to have another earthquake drill in the near future where the school will evacuate to Kanewai Field.  Fire drills will continue on a monthly basis.  Our next extensive safety drill will be the Second Site Evacuation in February.

Please talk with your children about the drill. Our goal, while practicing important safety procedures is to be sure all children are safe and not scared when we practice.  If you have any questions please contact our Principal (Mrs. Luczak), your teacher, our counselor (Mr. Ishihara), or our Student Services counselor (Mr. Bruno.)
